I am disappointed in Jill Carter
A Disturbing Shift in the Democratic Coalition
For generations, the Jewish community stood shoulder‑to‑shoulder with Black civil rights leaders.
They marched.
They organized.
They funded movements when no one else would.
They were beaten, jailed, and killed alongside Black activists.
To pretend this history doesn’t exist — or worse, to rewrite it into a conspiracy theory about “control” — is not only dishonest. It’s dangerous.
And yet, we’re watching a new strain of rhetoric emerge from a small but loud faction of the far left — a faction that treats Jewish Marylanders as political interlopers rather than long‑standing partners in the struggle for justice. When Judge Carter echoes that rhetoric, she isn’t just expressing an opinion. She’s validating a worldview that says some people, because of their religion or ethnicity, are inherently suspect.
That is the very thing the civil rights movement fought against.
The Problem With Carter’s Comments Isn’t Political — It’s Ethical
Judge Carter is free to dislike a candidate.
She is free to critique policy.
She is free to disagree with the Orthodox community on any issue.
But she is not free — ethically, professionally, or morally — to frame an entire religious community as a hostile occupying force in a majority‑Black district.
That crosses a line.
It violates the expectation of impartiality for anyone serving in an adjudicatory role.
It violates the spirit of the Democratic Party’s own anti‑bias commitments.
And it violates the basic decency we owe one another as Marylanders.
This is why the Baltimore Jewish community is calling on Gov. Wes Moore to take disciplinary action. Not because of politics. Because of principle.
This Isn’t About Israel. It Isn’t About Elections. It’s About Us.
I’ve been clear for years:
You can criticize the government of Israel.
You can oppose its policies.
You can support Palestinian rights.
You can do all of that without ever crossing into antisemitism.
But what Carter said wasn’t about Israel.
It wasn’t about foreign policy.
It wasn’t about Gaza.
It was about American Jews, right here in Baltimore, being cast as political puppeteers.
That is an old trope.
A dangerous trope.
A trope with a long, bloody history.
And it has no place in Maryland politics.
A Personal Note to My Jewish Readers
A significant portion of my readership is Jewish. Many of you have been with me for years. Some of you have disagreed with me on Israel. Some of you have challenged me, pushed me, educated me. And I’m grateful for it.
But let me say this plainly:
You belong in the Democratic Party. You may belong in the 41st District. You belong in Maryland politics.
No one — not a judge, not an activist, not a politician — gets to tell you otherwise.
What Reckless Jill Carter Should Do Now
This isn’t about silencing her.
This isn’t about punishing dissent.
This isn’t about choosing sides in a primary.
This is about responsibility.
When you voluntarily give up your Senate seat, accept a judicial appointment, and step into a role that demands neutrality, you also accept the obligation to avoid rhetoric that undermines public trust.
Judge Carter should take a breath.
She should step back.
She should stop pouring gasoline on divisions inside the Democratic coalition.
And she should remember that the fight against prejudice is not selective — you don’t get to oppose racism while indulging in religious or ethnic scapegoating.
Maryland Democrats Must Draw a Line
If we are going to stand up for a Chinese American data scientist who was targeted with racist comments — and we should — then we must also stand up for Jewish Marylanders who are being targeted with conspiratorial rhetoric.
You don’t get to pick which communities deserve protection.
You don’t get to decide whose dignity matters.
You don’t get to fight bigotry in one direction and excuse it in another.
Hate is hate.
Prejudice is prejudice.
And intolerance is intolerance.
No matter who it comes from.
The problem with this article is that it ignores the very real ways Jewish Americans consolidate power, ask Black people to ignore the effects of that power, or else they’ll destroy our livelihood as they’re attempting to do with Senator Carter. Thanks to the rampant Zionism, and reckless acts of Israel and Satanyahu people are no longer falling for this. Notice how they use the Civil rights movement, which did not deliver power or economic prosperity for Black Americans, as currency to ignore things like Deed Theft, or the vast majority of Jewish landlords that treat their Black tenets with contempt. James Baldwin wrote about this. Notice how The orthodox Jewish community attempted to stage a coup of the 41st District SCC, and lied about it in real time. This entire article is poppycock. Neither community can move forward unless we tell the truth. Can we talk about how Yitzy attempted to side step state law and get $50,000 for Shomrim, a group that beat a Black Northwestern student to a pulp when I was a student there, can we talk about the times Jewish Baltimorean’s called the cops on me and my friends at Northwestern for just existing. Zionism is white supremacy with a racism Trump card and we’re not falling for it anymore.
“This is why the Baltimore Jewish community is calling on Gov. Wes Moore to take disciplinary action…” Another self-important poser claiming to represent our community. Who elected you to represent us Barry?? I certainly am not calling on Gov Moore to take disciplinary action. Jill Carter is a local hero - the best Senator our district has had in my lifetime. Speak for yourself!!
