Trust neither one. There is no greater oxymoron in politics than the so-called “internal poll” that is distributed publicly. They exist solely to energize their base, appeal to undecided voters, demonstrate viability to the chattering class and reassure restive donors.
I may well be overly trusting, but based on the campaigns I've done over the years legitimate polls from recognized pollsters with a track record of delivering real polls When they do an internal pole you only hand out the numbers. If the numbers are good. I'm assuming that I couldn't call heart and associates or any of the other major pollsters are like Gonzalez and say cook me a poll that shows me 18 points up. So when I assess the data I assume that if they had a bad pole they threw it away and if since they have a good pole they published it. But at least they give me some clues into what the campaign was doing at some point in time. The other polling cpsi I think is the name for the tone pole was a website where you could fill out a polling data set of questions and they would add up. So if you sent out a mailing to your supporters telling them about this polling site, I would expect that you would get very good numbers. Also, I looked at the site and that appears to be what it is and they only did 150. Some people who apparently self-identified as likely to vote. I would consider that dubious. Now I'm not trying to disagree with you or pick a fight. That's not what I mean. I'm just throwing out my thoughts on polling data from legitimate polling companies and polling data from non-scientific websites. What would be really interesting if harden associates release another set of poll results tomorrow by lunch time? Then we could see how April is tracking. Is she up or down? She's dropped the last three poles. Do you think maybe she'll be up by a larger number? You never know? 🙂
